The Spirit 15 wing is certified by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Click on the picture at left to view the SACAA notice of approval.
The Spirit 15 wing was static tested to 450 kg (990 lbs) at 6 g's positive for a total static tested load of 2,450 kg (5,400 lbs).
Test was conducted by Spirit Wing Design Engineer Zenya Zozulya, according to the same method used by the German certification authority (DULV).
(German method is 450 kg - 50 kg (weight of wing) x 6 g's + 50 kg (weight of wing) = load to test for 6 g's.)
Jenya is one of the few trike wing
engineers in the world who has taken a trike wing through the German certification process (in that case the Stranger 14.8).
After testing all components were checked and showed
no signs of permanent deformation.
The wing was then subjected to more load and permanent deformation occured only at 485 kg (1,070 lbs) at 6 g's (for a total
load of 2,660 kg / 5,865 lbs), proving the astounding strength of this wing.
A full flight test program was also conducted in order to win CAA
approval. The wing performed fantastically in all tests.
